Kiruna is a city with an exciting history that ranges from being the world's largest city in terms of area to being the city that has to move due to mining operations. Join us on a tour of the city where you will experience both the old and new Kiruna. You will learn about LKAB's manager and the city's founder Hjalmar Lundbohm and his vision of creating the world's best city. We will visit the beautiful Kiruna Church, which is filled with artworks by, among others, Prince Eugen and Christian Eriksson. You will also hear about the church's future and how it will be moved. During the tour, you will also see the new center and the new city hall Kristallen, which is an architectural masterpiece.
We conclude with a visit to LKAB's mine in Kiruna, the world's largest underground mine for iron ore extraction. Here we will see how the iron ore is mined, refined, and transported to the port for further shipment around the world. LKAB is one of Sweden's oldest industrial companies, founded in 1890, and has taken the lead in the global transformation of the iron and steel industry. Together, we will set a new world standard for mining, produce carbon-free iron sponge, and extract critical minerals. We start our tour by taking the bus down to the visitor mine, which is located at 540 meters below ground.
