Northern Lights tour with huskies

Experiencing the raw power of sled dogs is an experience in itself, but doing it in a dark landscape with clear skies and northern lights is something magical.

We got to join Arctic Dogsled Adventure AB on a northern lights tour with huskies. The evening began with us receiving warm clothes and going through how to sit on the sled to be as safe as possible.

What power the team of 10 huskies had! We were quickly off into the dark landscape, lit up by the musher’s headlamp. We could see the large full moon slowly rising in the sky, and sometimes the headlamp was turned off so we could see if there were any northern lights.

With simple commands, the musher led us to their hut, where he started a fire so he could offer us a warm drink, cookies, and warm sandwiches. The husky Elsa came in with us, taking more interest in us as soon as we had something edible in our hands.

While we warmed ourselves by the open fire, we spotted some northern lights, so we went out into the cold February night to try to get some pictures.

After the warm drink and sandwich, we headed home. When we arrived, we helped give snacks to the dogs, and after that, we led them to their insulated dog houses.

Tours that offer two things in one are great, because when it comes to the northern lights, you can’t promise you’ll see them. But enjoying huskies is guaranteed.
